The Ritual Was the Remedy

There was a time when my life felt like it was spiraling out of control.

I was relying on wine as a way to cope with stress.
I went through menopause early, and my body felt like it was no longer working with me.
My son was battling a serious drug addiction.
And family challenges around me created what felt like constant cortisol overload.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease.

I knew something had to give.

I had to change - but I also felt completely overwhelmed about where to begin.

That is when I discovered something simple that would eventually shape my entire life:

the ritual was the remedy.

The first ritual

The first change I made was quitting drinking.

Instead of my daily ritual of wine, I replaced it with tea.

The first three days were hard.

After that, the ritual became easy.

I had simply traded one habit for another - and something inside me shifted.

Healing from the inside out

Next, I knew I needed to reduce inflammation.

So I began taking ginger and lemon shots every morning.

It became another small ritual - one that helped calm my body from the inside out.

These small changes didn’t fix everything overnight.

But they gave me something I hadn’t felt in a long time: momentum.

Returning to calm

Therapy helped me begin to understand something important.

When everything around us feels chaotic, our nervous system needs somewhere safe to return.

One day my therapist asked me to close my eyes and remember a time in my life when I felt completely settled and calm.

Immediately, I thought of my great-grandmother Isabella.

Her kitchen in Selkirk.

Cookies and juice at the table.

Her gentle presence.

Her Scottish accent as she moved quietly through the room.

She made the world feel safe.

That memory changed everything.

Discovering my roots

That moment led me back to my Scottish heritage.

And eventually to milk thistle.

Milk thistle became part of my daily ritual and a powerful support for my liver.

But even as my body began healing, my nervous system was still carrying stress.

My son was still struggling.

And I knew something important:

If I was ever going to help him, I had to get myself well first.

Learning how to stay steady

Therapy helped me understand how to support an adult child battling addiction.

That is when I learned the five-second rule.

Whenever my nervous system reacted - when the phone rang, when voices raised, when emotions escalated - I snapped an elastic band on my wrist and counted down from five.

It helped me respond calmly instead of reacting emotionally.

It worked.

But I still felt the stress inside my body.

The moment scent changed everything

That is when I created my first essential oil blend.

I wore it on a bracelet.

And whenever those difficult moments came, I would inhale the scent and take five deep breaths.

Something remarkable happened.

My calm lasted longer.

I could stay steady.

I could stay present.

That blend became Anam.

Anam means soul in Scottish Gaelic.

And at the time, I needed my soul protected.

Light after the storm

Months passed.

And I am grateful to say my son is now sober.

He is safe.

And today he helps others who are struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

But healing didn’t end there for me.

Even after he recovered, my nervous system still carried fear.

I had to teach my body that I was safe again.

That time with him was safe again.

That is when I created Solas.

Solas means light in Scottish Gaelic.

To me, it became a guiding light forward.

And I truly believe my great-grandmother Isabella had her hand in that one.

Why Nadurra exists

Life today moves fast.

Too fast.

We are constantly carrying stress, responsibility, and expectations with very little time to breathe.

Nadurra was created for that moment.

The moment you pause.

The moment you breathe.

The moment you step into a place where you feel safe again.

A place where small rituals help restore calm to your body, your mind, and your soul.

Because I learned something through my own healing journey that I now carry into everything we create:

even the smallest ritual can become the remedy.

We hope you find a little solas with us.

Nadurra is so much more than products.

It is a way to bring care back into your everyday rituals.

Because once change begins, it creates a ripple.
And that ripple becomes a wave.
Waves become rivers.
Rivers become lakes.

Before you know it, one small ritual has created a new path forward.

Come journey with us.
